Reading Programs

1000 Books Before Kindergarten – ongoing
The best way to make your child a reader is to read to them! So why not start right away? Join the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program at Crystal Lake Public Library. The program is open to CLPL cardholders ages birth-kindergarten. Parents and children keep track of how many books they read. After every 200 books, come into the library to have an interactive experience as your prize. Your deadline to complete the program is when your child enters kindergarten.

200 Books – Take a photo with our giraffe, Waffles. We’ll display the photo on our digital picture frame.
400 Books – Ring a gong in the library, and everyone will clap!
600 Books – Pick a special owl, put your name on it and hang it on our tree.
800 Books – Tour our Circulation Department and check out your own books behind the main counter.
1000 Books – Get a special picture taken with our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten frame and receive a T-shirt! You will also be invited to our yearly graduation party in August!

During Virtual CLPL, call 815.459.1687, email kids@clpl.org, or chat with a staff member to get additional logs. New sign-ups will resume when the Library building is open.
