Why buy when you can borrow?

CLPL cardholders – check out our new Library of Things! We’re building a collection of unique, non-traditional items. Save money and resources by borrowing items you may not use often or just want to try out!

Borrowing Guidelines

  • CLPL cardholders only
  • Limit of 2 Library of Things items + 1 mobile hotspot per card
  • 14-day checkout
  • No renewals
  • Things must be checked out and returned at the CLPL Circulation Desk
  • Limit of 5 holds on Library of Things items per card

Initial funding for the Library of Things collection was provided by the Thomas W. Ames Trust, which was established for CLPL in 1986. Items included in the “That’s a Game Changer” project were funded by a My Library Is… Grant from the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS), with funding provided through the Illinois State Library and the Secretary of State from revenue appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly or granted under the federal Library Services and Technology Act.
